Epochs of Music

I was playing around with calculations of storage space and how much music it can hold. I found this website that shows the progression of disk storage from 1 bit to 1 Yottabyte.

I used the math of;

192KB /s MP3 average song length = 3 minutes
3.2 MB as a benchmark.

1,000,000 MB / 3.2

312,500

(312,500/60 minutes)/24 hours to get

217 days of music in a Terabyte

6.4 centuries of music in a Petabyte

653 Millenniums of music in a Exabyte

16,066 Epochs of music in a Zetabyte

685,479 Epochs of music in a Yottabyte

Consider then we are in the Terabyte age and burgeoning on Petabytes in the next 20 years we will be at Yottabytes. The amount of space on a computer will become a thing of no worry as a file that is 300mb is infinitesimal compared to the disc size.

So then if we consider how much space there is when it comes to programming. Right now Windows 7 uses 5.917Gb of storage space and they are currently working on Windows 8 and that may take up more space. Windows 2000 was a hog, but I digress, computer language will have to change to consider the amount of data that can be used. No longer will there be compressed files as we know them but I bet there will be packs of code written in algorithmic processes that one can place in a sequence of events of full architecture design.

Coding will be come less complex with "What you see is what you get" (WYSIWTYG) programming. One can make simple applications with Adobe Flash. Flash is capable of creating individual coding inside elements and embed them in other coded elements. With this capability you can plug and play coded elements allowing one to create an archive of "Clip Art" coded and ready to go. You just need to place them where you want them in your Flash project and go.

So then where do we go from here? Computer programming will have to advance and we are in age where we will see it advance at a surprising rate. Look forward to Computer cores that think better than Watson and Blue and will take the worlds information and store it within those drives. Those computers will become the bases for exploring the solar system if not the galaxy and once impossible designs will become possible.

Like Graphic Design the regular folk will be able to design their own applications and will make it hard to compete, but as always specialists will become needed to make the plug and play modules for the Desktop App Publisher.
